Motor Fleet insurance is a multi-vehicle insurance policy covering different types of vehicles your business owns, which you typically use for commercial purposes, however, social, domestic & pleasure can also be included. Motor Fleet insurance is a suitable policy if you own 2 or more vehicles, however most insurers have a minimum of 3-4 vehicles these days. A Motor Fleet policy can be very beneficial for your business, they are practical, with only 1 renewal date for all vehicles, as well as being more cost effective & flexible with driving restrictions.

Motor Fleet insurance policies can usually cover a range of vehicle types, such as:

  • Cars
  • Vans
  • Trucks, lorries & tractor units
  • Motorcycles and quad bikes
  • Special type vehicles such as diggers, tractors and suction vehicles

if your business is involved in a motor accident that isn’t your fault, you are usually entitled to a hire vehicle whilst your vehicle is being repaired, in which your Motor Legal provider can reclaim the rental costs from the third party’s insurer. This hire vehicle can usually be on a like for like basis, especially if used for commercial purposes, where there could be a disruption to your work activities if a replacement isn’t provided.

However, if your business is involved in a motor accident that is your fault, most insurers will not provide a hire vehicle, especially when it comes to Motor Fleet insurance. If your business is negligent, your insurer cannot recover the hire vehicle costs from any other party, which is why most insurers do not offer this cover as standard. This could lead to a large financial burden for your business, especially if your vehicle that needs to be repaired is used for commercial purposes.

In line with our Motor Fleet insurance policies, we generally recommend guaranteed hire vehicle insurance, this cover is usually a separate policy, which provides a hire vehicle to your business if you were to have an accident which was your fault.
