Contract works insurance is designed to cover your construction project against a wide range of perils, from the start of the project, right up to completion or handover. Cover includes:

  • The work in progress, including labour costs if applicable*
  • The building materials being used and stored on site

*Labour costs are usually covered under Contract Works insurance, which can reimburse the labour costs incurred, to get the project to the same point as before the loss took place

A Joint Names policy is often required by construction contracts, such as under JCT contracts. These policies are common on construction contracts involving renovations and extensions, where it is normally taken out by the employer and building contractor, although other parties such as funders may also wish to be included.

Rather than have Joint Names on Contract Works insurance policies, more insurers are relying on the Indemnity to Principle clause.
